Do You Know Shiritori?🗣️
Have you heard of the word game called Shiritori?🤔
Shiritori is a traditional Japanese word game that dates back to the Heian period.
In this game, players take turns saying a word that begins with the last syllable of the previous word.
For example, the sequence might go "shiritori" → "ringo" (apple🍎) → "goma" (sesame).
The game ends when a player uses a word that ends with " n," as there are no Japanese words that begin with that syllable.
The name "Shiritori" literally means "taking the end," referring to the use of the last syllable of the preceding word. 🧐
Initially, it was played among the aristocracy as a literary pastime and became part of Japan's rich tradition of wordplay.
Over time, Shiritori gained popularity across all social classes and evolved into a common game.👭
For Japanese language learners, Shiritori is a great opportunity to practice vocabulary and have fun at the same time.⭐️
I tried playing Shiritori in my class before, and it was very engaging as everyone helped each other think of words they knew. 🤩
Some of my students even use WhatsApp to play Shiritori during their free time, finding it a fun way to interact with the Japanese language.📲🇯🇵
I encourage everyone to give Shiritori a try!✨✨
