If you are a Mac user, you might have seen the wallpaper of this lake. The lake is in Biei town in Hokkaido, where probably 99.9% of Japanese have never heard of. Getting to this lake is not so easy as it is 17km from the nearest JR station. But this probably makes your journey to the lake more special. If you visit the lake in winter season, you can see a stark contrast of the white and blue col. Colloid particles in water reflect sunlight, making the water look blue.

If you're travelling to Japan in September and want to see Autumn leaves, you can enjoy a visual feast in Daisetsuzan in Hokkaido. Normally, in most areas of Japan, you can see Autumn leaves from end of October. But it's different in Daisetsuzan as you can see it from middle or end of September onwards. Hokkaido is good in winter for snow skiing, and also wonderful to see autumn leaves in September.

When is best season for Ikura? Actually, Ikura is salmon roe preserved by shoyu, so you can eat it at anytime of the year. If you really want to try very fresh Ikura, then please visit Hokkaido from September to October. In other seasons, salmon roe is frozen before being preserved. Eating Ikura at a small fish port in the east of Hokkaido will be an unforgettable memory.

What is most simple but delicious food in Hokkaido? It's probably Hokkaido potato with Hokkaido butter. When you eat it, you can feel that you're right in Hokkaido. It tastes like freshly baked bread. The best season for Hokkaido potato is probably from July to end of October.

In Hokkaido, food is awesome, even if it's sushi in a conveyor belt sushi bar. One of the most popular sushi bars amongst locals and tourists is "Nemuro Hanamaru" in Sapporo Station. Most sushi are just around S$3 (for 2 pieces), but the quality of them is beyond your imagination! The prawn is very sweet and squid is like mochi~ Fans of Nemuro Hanamaru need to queue for about 1 hr, but it's definitely worth doing so!
